Mixed Media Collage: 6 week class

In this beginner to intermediate level class, you will learn to use drawing materials, acrylic paint, magazine images, paper and other materials to create a ready-to-display mixed media work on cradled wood panel.
Students will:
- Discuss composition, visual balance, texture, and other basic art concepts
- Learn about mixed media supplies and techniques
- Experiment with a variety of art materials
- Learn proper techniques for application of media and layering
- Walk away with at least one mixed media artwork worthy of display
Included with registration fee:
- 9x12 cradled wood panel
- Gesso
- Masking tape
- magazines
- paints
- drawing materials
- paint brushes
- foam brushes
Supplies to bring:
- An X-acto or craft knife with 5-10 extra blades
- A pair of sharp scissors
- Cutting mat or an old cereal box
- Mod Podge (matte, satin, or gloss - whichever you prefer)
- An envelope, folder or container to keep all your cut pieces in
- Paper media to cut up: Magazines, maps, sheet music, book pages, drawings or paintings on paper that need a new life, old motivational posters that no longer serve you, etc.
- Optional flat-ish stuff: embroidery thread, lace, ribbon, puzzle pieces (from a puzzle already missing pieces, or else you're a monster), dried leaves or flowers, you get the point
- Stuff you may have or want to get: specific paint colors (craft paint in the tiny bottles is perfect and cheap, or leftover latex house paint colors work), favorite paint brushes or drawing supplies, etc.
DAY ONE: Please come with supplies listed above
- Introduction to your supplies
- Introduce mixed media techniques
- Prep your surface
- Begin building layers
DAY TWO:
- Continue building layers
- Collect interesting images/materials for composition
- Talk about color schemes, composition, creating order form chaos
- Learn cutting tips and tricks
DAY THREE:
- Test layout options and compose your design
- Find your theme
- Begin planning your application
DAY FOUR:
- Add details and finishing touches
- Bring harmony to your composition
- Add your hanging wire
DAYS FIVE & SIX: Open studio time to work! I will be available for guidance and problem solving
