The owner of the Frame Factory & Gallery, Rhoda Miller, asked me to paint poppies on the work room wall. Poppies symbolize peace and remembrance, especially for those who've Iost their lives in war, whether soldiers or civilian casualties. With the heaviness of the world and the turmoil in the US at the hands of the American government under the Trump administration, she wanted to create a thing of beauty that is also a quiet act of defiance.
There are statements painted underneath the surface of this mural, representing a world we hope to see one day. For now, we will fight the good fight day to day, and this mural will act as a reminder that joy is resistance and that this space is one of inclusivity, dignity, and compassion for our fellow humans.
